Women’s golf takes home 4th

The Troy women’s golf team moved up one spot in overall play on the final day at the Tchefuncta Invitational. The tournament was hosted at the Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington, Louisiana. 

On Monday, the first day of competition, seniors ShaeLee Scarberry and Elisabeth Preus continued their strong starts to the spring season. 

Scarberry’s score of 4-under 67 was the fifth-lowest round in school history and the lowest score by any of the other golfers on the day, scoring 10 birdies over two rounds. Preus had rounds of 74 and 76, along with three birdies.  

The Trojans shot 33 over as a team, being 18 over in the first round and 15-over in the second round. 

On the second and final day of action, the Trojans ascended into a tie for fourth place. Scarberry came in second place individually.

With 13 birdies across 54 holes, Scarberry had a solid finish to the tournament. For the first time in her college career, freshman Samantha Straight shot under par with a-under 70 on the final day. 

Freshman Katelynn Altese jumped 13 spots to finish in a tie for 18th place, and Elisabeth Preus finished in a tie for 23rd place after scoring 80. Freshman Laura Fangmeyer finished in a tie for 31st and junior Bruna Roqueta climbed four spots to into a tie for 27th place. 

The Troy women’s golf team will next compete at the Georgia State Invitational John’s Creek, Georgia, from March 27-28.
